Profhilo vs skin boosters: which one does your skin actually need?
"Skin booster" has become a category so broad it has stopped meaning anything. Here is what actually separates Profhilo, Ejal 40 and polynucleotides — and how to tell which one you want.
Walk into three different clinics with the same complaint and you can be offered three different "skin boosters", all described in almost identical language. The category has expanded faster than the vocabulary for it. This piece is an attempt to draw clean lines between the options we offer, including where they overlap and where one is plainly the better choice.

Profhilo: the one for firmness, not just glow
Profhilo is an unusually high concentration of hyaluronic acid — but its distinguishing feature is that it is stabilised without chemical cross-linking. That means it spreads through the tissue rather than staying where it was placed, which is why it is injected at just five points per side of the face rather than in a grid.
The effect people notice is firmness. It hydrates, certainly, but the reason it earned its reputation is the bio-remodelling: over four to six weeks it improves the quality and tone of the tissue, which reads on a face as a slightly better-supported jawline and a smoother neck.
It is the strongest choice on this list if the thing bothering you is early laxity — skin that has started to look less taut rather than skin that looks dry. It is a two-session protocol, four weeks apart, which is fewer appointments than the alternatives.
Ejal 40: the sensible starting point
Ejal 40 is a straightforward hyaluronic acid skin booster and, at £150 a session, the simplest way to find out whether your skin responds well to injectable hydration at all. It does one thing well: it puts water-binding hyaluronic acid into the dermis, and skin that has been dull and tight starts reflecting light properly again.
It does not have Profhilo's firming reputation and it does not carry polynucleotides' repair credentials. What it has is a low barrier to entry and a reliably pleasant result. For someone in their late twenties or early thirties whose complaint is "my skin looks flat and tired", it is often exactly enough.
Polynucleotides: the repair option
Covered in depth in our polynucleotide guide, but in this comparison the distinction is simple: polynucleotides are not primarily a hydration treatment. They are a repair treatment that happens to improve hydration as a side effect.
Choose them over the hyaluronic acid options when the skin itself is compromised — thin, crepey, finely crinkled, damaged by sun or by years of not much care. And choose them for the under-eye area specifically, where their safety profile is the most comfortable of the three.
How to actually decide
Stand in daylight, without makeup, and finish this sentence honestly: the problem is that my skin looks…
- …dry, dull, flat. Start with Ejal 40. It is the cheapest way to answer the question, and if it works you have found your maintenance treatment.
- …less firm than it was; my neck has started to show it. Profhilo, face and neck. Two sessions.
- …thin and crinkled, especially under my eyes. Polynucleotides.
- …all three of those things. Then the sequencing matters more than the choice, and that genuinely needs a consultation. Stacking these treatments works well when they are planned; badly when they are booked one at a time on impulse.
Can you combine them?
Yes, and it is common — but not in the same appointment and not without a plan. A typical combined approach might run polynucleotides for the under-eyes while Profhilo handles the lower face and neck, spaced so the two courses do not collide. What we would not do is inject two biostimulators into the same tissue a week apart and hope.
If you are considering more than one, book a consultation rather than a treatment. The £30 consultation deposit is redeemable against whatever you go on to book.
What none of them will do
None of these treatments will restore lost volume, lift tissue that has genuinely descended, or soften a deep expression line caused by muscle movement. They improve the canvas. If the structural conversation is the one you need, a consultation will say so plainly rather than selling you three courses of the wrong thing.
Common questions
Is Profhilo better than a normal skin booster?
Not better — different. Profhilo's distinguishing feature is bio-remodelling, which improves tissue firmness as well as hydration. A standard booster like Ejal 40 focuses on hydration and glow at a lower price point. Firmness concerns favour Profhilo; hydration concerns are well served by either.
How many Profhilo sessions do I need?
The standard protocol is two sessions four weeks apart, with results building over the following four to six weeks. Maintenance is usually one or two sessions every six months.
Can I have Profhilo and polynucleotides together?
They can be combined across a treatment plan but should not be injected into the same area at the same time. A practitioner will sequence them — commonly polynucleotides for the under-eyes and Profhilo for the lower face and neck.
How much is Profhilo in London?
At Polished Beauty London, Profhilo for the face is £250 per session or £430 for the two-session course. Face and neck is £400 per session or £720 for the course.
Which skin booster is best for the neck?
Profhilo is the usual choice for the neck, because its bio-remodelling effect addresses the crepey laxity that neck skin typically shows. Face and neck are treated together in one appointment.
